LEAD Talent Search Examination (LTSE) 2012: Opening New Doors of Opportunity

LEAD Trust, Bangalore, announces the date for the LEAD Talent Search Examination (LTSE) 2012. The Entrance test for students will be held in nearly 60 cities on the following dates – Saturday 31st March 2012 in UAE; Sunday, 1st April 2012 (Kerala, Maharashtra); and Sunday, 22nd April 2012 (Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, AP) followed by interviews.

The exam is open for all students who have completed 10th std in 2012 and is being done to identify the best and brightest among them to form the 2014 LEAD scholars batch. Toppers of LTSE 2012 will eligible for scholarships for admission into 1st year PUC at partner colleges of LEAD Trust. LEAD Trust will provide need based scholarships to partially meet their expenses relating to college fees, training, coaching, guidance, books, study materials, etc. for 2 years at the partner colleges. Students/ Parents will have to bear the cost of boarding and lodging at hostels. However, poor students may also seek support for boarding and lodging.

In 2010 and 2011, LEAD has selected 11 and 20 students respectively for the LEAD Scholars batches for providing coaching only for Engineering (IIT-JEE and AIEEE entrance exams). Realizing the importance of having scientists, teachers, doctors and lawyers in order to strengthen the community and country, LEAD trust is expanding its footprint and select students for a career in these fields.

This year, LEAD will broadening its base and be selecting students to pursue three additional streams – Pure Sciences, Medicine and Law. In the forthcoming two years, the Scholars batch students will be coached to give the national level entrance examinations to get into the best colleges in India and abroad.

Students can apply online through www.leadtrust.in subject to their meeting the eligibility criteria. This is quite stringent in order to select candidates purely on the basis of their ability. The cumulative score of applicants in 9th Std must be more than 60%/ equivalent grade. Additionally those applying for Engineering and Pure Sciences stream must have scored at least 80%/ equivalent grade in Mathematics and Science in their 9th standard.

Eligible students will be selected based on three criteria:

1. Academic performance – SSLC/ 10th Std and 9th Std;
2. Performance in LTSE 2012 Entrance test;
3. Interview.

Details of test centre location, co-ordinator name & contact, test centre address & time of LTSE exam, are available on www.leadtrust.in Through LTSE 2012, LEAD has partnered with four PU colleges across Karnataka – Shaheen PU College, Bidar; Al-Ameen PU College, Bangalore; Al Falah PU College, Magadi and Beary Composite PU College, Kundapur. These colleges have set aside a specific quota to select bright students through LTSE 2012 and will offer fees and hostel concessions based on their performance in LTSE and 10th Std. In addition, coaching for IIT-JEE/ AIEEE/ NEET/ CLAT/ CET will be provided to the selected students at the college itself through tie-ups with reputed coaching institutes.

LTSE 2012 will be for 2-3 hours covering following subjects based on the stream chosen by the student:

(a) Engineering & Pure Sciences (coaching for IIT-JEE, AIEEE or CET): Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Logical Reasoning.
(b) Medicine (coaching for NEET): Physics, Chemistry and Biology
(c) Law (coaching for CLAT): English, General Knowledge, Basic legal aptitude, Essay.

A student will have to give entrance for any one stream only which will need to be mentioned in the application form. The topics will be from their X Std syllabus or General Knowledge. Sample questions have been made available on www.leadtrust.in and students are requested to go through them prior to submitting the application form.

LEAD Trust is an NGO formed in 2009 by a group of professionals and academicians of Bengaluru city. It aims to promote excellence in education and leadership among Indian youth through identifying and supporting good students who, due to low awareness of good educational opportunities, coupled with poor economic conditions, are unable to pursue their dream careers. The Trust had conducted entrance exams in 2010 and 2011 in 25 and 42 cities across South India respectively, which was taken by more than 1,500 10th std students in each year. Of this, 11 students were selected as LEAD 2012 scholars and 20 students as LEAD 2013 scholars. LEAD scholars are doing the residential coaching programme and being coached by TIME for IIT-JEE in 2012 and 2013 respectively and are doing their PUC at Al-Ameen PU College, Bangalore. LEAD’s first scholars batch is due to complete II PUC in 2012.

In addition, LEAD has also played an important role in promoting the civil services career among Minorities. The Directorate of Minorities (DoM), Government of Karnataka, introduced a new scheme for Free Pre-examination training for Minority Candidates for UPSC/ KPSC Examinations. LEAD Trust facilitated the entire selection process for DoM in both 2010 & 2011. In 2010, 16 and 26 students were sponsored by DoM for UPSC/ KPSC 2011 coaching respectively. In Aug-2011, LEAD conducted the selection test in 13 cities in Karnataka taken by 450 students. A total of 78 students are being sponsored in 2011-12.
